This luxurious little antique brooch pairs rich gold with glowing garnet. A lambent oval cabochon garnet is set east/west in a 14k gold frame. The frame is gorgeously engraved with feathers and flourishes. Light plays with this petite pin in a subtle and wonderful way. Circa 1880.

This lovely little brooch is a lace pin, also known as a Fichu. These tiny, lightweight brooches had the specific task of pinning closed a lace Fichu (a type of neck scarf). Fichus were fashionable from the early 18th century well into the 19th century.
